Default Cost of Fuel... WTF?

So, I go to buy some cigarettes at the local "Oh Thank Heaven for" 7-11, and I figure I'd fill up my tank with gas.

WTF?

I couldn't believe it. I wrote them down:

Regular: $3.02
Mid-grade: $3.13
Premium: $3.19

WTF?

I might have to rob the gas station next time to even fill my tank up. OMFG.

How much is gas where you are?

WTF?

That's about the same as it is here in Southern California, but haven't checked since the hurricane.

Don't forget that there's about 3.7[8] liters/gallon so the conversion is about right...

prices are getting scary.

They're talking now that $4.00 per gallon may be in the not-too-distant future.

As for bio-deisel... it's already on the market, just not enough to make a dent. The problem is that currently it requires more energy to create bio-deisel than you get out of it. Plus... only a small fraction of cars on the road run on deisel, and not all of them can take alternative fuels.

Actully I heard from my teacher(American History to be exact but his a knowledgable guy)that Bush wanted to pump some oil in Alaska,BUT was rejected since the oil is in some Caribu reserve(big deer like animal not sure on spelling)and they want to save it when the Middle East can no longer give us enough gas, prepare for real high gas!

The ANWAR oil reserves, even if Bush got it passed to pump it, wouldn't hit the market for some 10 years, so that's irrelevant. They would have to build the entire infrastructure from scratch, including the pipelines, pumping stations, etc... then drill for it and hope they find it.

I think we should have a tribute to $0.40 a gallon fuel.. let us all take a moment to think of the good times

Aye, this was a bit of a controversy, but ultimately (dabate in my enviromental science class) the reserves there wouldn't really last long enough to make it worth it.

Best thing is to actually start putting some damn money into research and funding for alternative fuel sources... Until we can come up with a renewable resource (oil can hold us, yes, but there's only so much till we run out), then we'll risk facing this problem always during the future. The government(s) need to start learning that sometimes you need to lose money in the initial investment before you gain money.

By the way, the main reason research has been delayed and scantly looked into at this point is because it's vastly more profitable to everyone to just keep using oil. That's what it all burns down to, money... (no pun intended)
